In mainstream cultures, like America and most European countries, I don't think 12-13 year olds are mature enough for marriage. A lot of 3rd world cultures and natives (Like South American Indians, etc..) are raised differently and have different maturity levels. Their teen years have "already" happened so to say. How can we judge something that is totally alien to us?

Personally I disagree with arranged, forced, or sold marriages. No one should have to marry without wanting to. But like some people have said, it is a cultural thing, and if you look at the flip side if the girl is not married by a certain age no one will touch her or worse, her family will kill her because she would be considered a disgrace to her family.

My wife and I married at 24 and 26, respectively, and we both feel we were too young. We're very happy (now 30 and 32) but honestly we should have waited. The fact is you're still growing up and figuring yourself out through your twenties, so it's better to wait before signing up to spend the rest of your life with someone who is also still figuring themselves out.

12 and 13 is to young. my late husband was almost 10 years older than me. I knew someone who married a man who is 58 and she is 38. they have nothing in common. they don't even sleep in the same bed. they do nothing together. I wonder why they ever got married. my husband and I did everything together until he passed away

I don't agree with it. someone getting married at the age doesn't have the ability or mind capacity to provide for a family. it's worse when they marry someone who's 40, like you said. God bless u.

I think it's fine if both parties agree to a 10 year engagement.

You're not talking about marriage.
You're talking about girls being sold by their father to pay a debt, or for some other "reason."

We call it child molesting here. There are other countries that may allow it... I think maybe Holland, but it's highly immoral and sick.

It is not only illegal in most communities but is also the height of insanity.
