In most states...using his last name is a step in becoming common law married. Check with your state rules on it. Some states require forms to still be completed and some just require you to live with each other for 6 mo or more and have been introduced or introduced yourself as the wife of your husband/boyfriend.

And "common law" is not recognized in all states in the USA, so you best check it out in your state.

Unless you live in West Virginia, there's a pretty good chance your State does not recognize common law marriage. You can choose any name you want, even Mamma Moonshine!

By all means, you'll have to go through the court system of your area and fallow the rules they set to do it. It may take some time but it shouldn't take too long, about 30 days.

p.s. you are also responsible for his obligations in all money maters and his bills that you 2 make, so if this is what you want, go for it..

You can change your legal name to what ever you want. Go to the social securty office.
But also note not all states have common law.

I guess so. Maybe it depends on the laws of your state. But if you change it legally, with a judge's permission, I don't see a problem with it.

That depends if your state recognizes common law marriages. If it does,then yes you can, if it doesn't, you can't.
