The only method with any scientific backing is the Shettles method (see sources section below). Since it is only 75-90% effective, it should *only* be used if you will be thrilled with a child of either sex. For highest success rate, read the book, not just the Web site.

According to Dr. Drew the way to have a chance at the sex of your baby is if you want a boy have sex closes to when you ovalate because boy sperms are more aggressive then girl sperm and they swim faster to get to the egg. Later after you ovalate the boys will be worn out so the girl sperms will get to the egg faster. I saw this on his talk show it's worth a shot. Good Luck either way.

You mean things you can try at home? They say you should douche with a vinegar/water solution for a girl, and a baking soda/water solution for a boy. Another thing I've heard of is that you should have contact on the day of ovulation for a boy (since "boy" sperm swim faster and reach the egg sooner). If you want a girl, you should have contact before your actual date of ovulation. Have no idea if these things actually work, though.

For scientific intervention, I think you can do microsort, which sorts the "boy" sperm from the "girl" sperm.

There is no way to determine the sex of your child. It is the luck of the draw. Women carry on the X female gene in their eggs. However men carry both X (female) and Y (male). The sex of your child will be determined by which sperm cell carrying which gene fertilizes your egg. The only thing that has been proven is that sperm carry the Y gene are faster swimmers.
