I hate all those bands, but hey, I am one of those guys who hates most music after 1982. If you want real punk rock, not this new crap, listen to the damn Ramones, early Talking Heads, Chuck Sanders, some good music, dammit.

fall out boy and Panic! at the Disco is good punk music. so is My Chemical Romance, Taking Back Sunday, Story of the Year, From first to Last, AFI and bands like that. I think to be a true rocker or punk rocker, you have to have an array of tastes.

In that case I guess I'm not a true rocker because I quite like Fall Out Boy and Panic! At the Disco. Other people don't like them because they're too "mainstream" and whatnot but they seem to be too caught up in self image or they truly do not like their music.

Personally, I think that you can truly appreciate rock music, and still enjoy other types as well.
Is it really disloyal to appreciate more than one type of music?
Jeez! Any idea how much you'd be missing if you held onto the belief that you couldn't listen to anything but one type of music in order to be true to it?
Especially these days. All types of music are criss-crossed and mixed. Some of the best rock artists ever experimented with more than one type of music. Do you not listen to Metallica because they use classical symphony, or not listen to Sublime because they added Ska, and Reggae, or not listen to Linkin Park because the rap some of their lyrics?
I have music A.D.D. I absolutely can't listen to the same music day in and day out forever, but if it make somebody else feel a certain loyalty to be a "true rocker" then I guess there could be worse things to obsess over.
Cool question.

A "true" Rocker stays true to the music he/she loves.
I would consider myself a true rocker. But I don't really like those bands because 1. I haven't heard enough of them, and 2. They just aren't the kind of Rock I grew up liking.
I can see some similarities in old rock and new rock, but the new rock is different. I know that a younger crowd who is growing up with it will like it and continue to like it, because right now it is NEW music Cool music, and it will grow on them. I don't have time for music to grown on me. I have a whole garden of music grown on me already.
So I am a true rocker, but I may not like the same bands as you. And you are a true rocker, and in another 20 years when someone asks you why you say the new rock sucks, you can explain why to them.
