Which piece of land, or country, has been invaded the most often?

I know it's a very open question, but as there are so many different facets to consider, I thought I would leave it as open as possible.

In the global competition for the prize of “most invaded territory” in history, I suspect Korea would be eliminated in the early rounds, even within its favored “most invaded peninsula” division. The competition in the “most invaded steppe” division is far more brutal. Even within the Eurasian peninsula division, the Anatolian, Balkan, Italian, and Iberian peninsulas have certainly compiled far more impressive records than the Korean peninsula, especially if one includes coastal piracy. Sure, the Korean peninsula has been invaded more often than the Japanese archipelago over the last couple of millennia, but both are in the bush leagues in the global scheme of things. In the “most invaded archipelago” division, Japan would probably not even be invited to the tournament, despite its devastating defeat in World War II.

I think if what you want to know points to the smallest possible piece of land that's been invaded the most number of times, it would have to be the city of Jerusalem, invaded by every empire of the western/middle eastern world within the past three thousand or so years, more if you believe the Jewish mythology of King Solomon, for which no archaeological evidence ever existed.

In modern western civilization i think Poland is the most invaded country... the poor nation could never rest because Russia and Prussia would invade and divide it up whenever they were bored or had spare time on their hands... many times they ended up not existing as a nation because of it...
i'm not too familiar with south american or african history so i couldn't say anything about that...

The answer is the modern day middle east. You cannot chosose just one of those nations as they have all been conquered together.

Every prehistoric civilization has conquered that area.

The phonecians, greek, babylonians, persians, Romans, British, turks, Catholic Church, Hebrews, just to name a few have all conquered that region.

Every major civilization throughout history have conquered that region, either moving west from the firtile crescent, or east from the mediteranian.

I would say either the Holy Land (Israel and the Mid East) or The Balkan Territory (Black Sea and Istanbul) It really depends on what time period you're talking about.

Afghanistan must be near the top, if not the actual top - and no-one's properly succeeded, except perhaps Tamerlaine and his descendents in the 14th century.
