Pins and needles is usually an indication of poor perfusion (blood supply) or some kind of nerve damage. If he is still tingling, get him to a doctor. If he is a heavy smoker, he could be losing circulation to his hand. If he has a recent injury, a blood vessel could be impinged or a nerve could be compressed or pinched. Hopefully, it is a pinched nerve, which will resolve in time. However, it is not a light matter, and I would suggest a doctor's visit ASAP.

Numbness and tingling is usually a symptom of nerve irritation or injury and is not a normal occurrence. If these feelings last longer than a day or so, or occur frequently, you should schedule an appointment for medical consultation.
Being aware of the specific location of the numbness and tingling can assist the doctor is determining the source of the injury. Also, let the doctor know how often the problem occurs, how long it lasts, and if any particular activities or positions either cause the symptoms or make them worse.

I think that the feeling on pins and needle has to do with the nerves in his hand. He would have to go and check it out to make sure its not too serious

regarding your health question about pins and needles in the hand ,i think it might be the discs in his neck that are doing it because i think the nerves that control the hands are in the neck.

What kind of work does he do? Lack of circulation as a cause I would doubt. A repetition injury or carpal tunnel syndrome pressing nerves is most likely.

he needs to see a hand specialist, it sounds like it could be carpal tunnel. Yes men can get it although it is more common in women. He needs to use motrin and talk to a doctor good luck!!
