My marriage is failing miserably and I'm giving up hope when it comes to men. I wanted to see if anyone else had had the same type of thought occur to them when they've almost given up hope.

What makes a woman to want to become a nun?
Simple: in your situation "nun" other than man!... got it?! ;-)

In your distress over your marriage problems, you worded your question wrong! Nobody FORCES a woman to become a nun! It's a "Calling". Do you really know what the life of a nun is all about? I seriously don't think so! A woman either knows it is for her or she doesn't.
A failed marriage is no excuse to become a nun! What if you became a nun and met a man after wards that you became attracted to? You'd probably forsake your vows because it was false to begin with!. You're not thinking clearly here. Give it some thought and some time and see how you feel later.
It sounds to me like you are taking all the blame for a failed marriage. It takes TWO to tangle!

I don't think you are ready to become a Nun. But your statement about your marriage & men speaks volumes. Have you given up hope because you've judged all men by the actions of one man? (Your husband). I have learned the hard way that what I thought was wrong with my marriage wasn't necessarily so. Things didn't start to improve until I started to work on my own issues individually, & my wife started to work on hers separately as well. Although you are contemplting going about it the wrong way, you are definately right about one thing. If you end your marriage, & start another relationship without making the necessary changes in yourself, you are likely to be destined for another unhappy marriage.

Surely the option is between being married (or in a live-in relationship) and living on your own. How does becoming a nun fit into anything unless you have always been attracted to hiding away from the world?

I don't think anything forces someone to become a nun. A desire to serve God and the Church is a natural calling for some people.

Being a nun is not an alternative to a lifestyle. It is a calling to walk with God.

Becoming a nun over a failed marriage is not new.
But it may be, perhaps, unwise.

i don't know why, but i guess i always assumed it was a love for God and a desire to give their entire life over to his service that women became nuns.
