Please be honest! Here are my stats: I have a 3.8 GPA, taken several (6) AP classes, been involved in many clubs as a member and as an executive board member, received a 2100 on my SATs, 790 SATII Language, have 25 hours of community service, and won several awards nationally, statewide, and regionally. I plan on taking the SATs again and two additional SATIIs. Thanks for your ideas!

With a 3.8, 2100 SAT, and six AP classes, along with your high SAT II score, you certainly have the scores to get in. But NYU (and every other elite college) is looking for something that sets YOU apart from everyone else that has such lofty scores.

I didn't apply to NYU when I went to undergrad, but I did apply to similar "elite" schools, my SAT scores and GPA were approximately the same as yours. That is NOT what got me in. Everybody (almost) that applies to such schools has these scores. The school is looking for those things that makes you unique, and a welcome addition to a class full of similarly driven people. What will you bring to the class that others will not? I think your extracurricular activities are excellent. Your community service and extracurricular activites show that you exactly the well-rounded individual they are looking for.

Further, you show a human side by your community service. In your essay, tell NYU what YOU will bring to the NYU community, and I think you will be very happy with the results.

Unless you think you can dramatically improve your SAT I score, I wouldn't take the SAT I again. 2100 is an excellent score.

Good luck, you certainly have the qualifications to go anywhere you want!

Nope, you're still a failure. And you're not thin enough either.

Guess what, kid--5 years after college, nobody cares what the hell school you went to.
