Like others said, the Beach Boys are the classic "beach" musc. They are part of a larger genre, though, called surf music.
Surf music ranges from softer stuff like Jan and Dean or Chad and Jeremy to harder material like Dick Dale, who originated the surf-guitar sound. Surf music can be hard enough to verge on punk, and even influenced punk.
One great source of surf music is the "Pulp Fiction" soundtrack. Be warned that there is dialogue from the movie on that album also, which is not child-friendly!
Surf music is part of an even larger style called the California sound. This style included other acts from guess where, in the 1960s and early '70s, like The Mamas and the Papas, The Eagles, and The Righteous Brothers, who were into sunny harmonies.
Other music from California of the time is also great for the beach. There was a concert hall called The Fillmore where the psychedelic bands back then played: The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, the Jimi Hendrix Experience, the Doors, Parliament, and others.
If you go to the bargain bin or "Various Artists" section of most CD stores, you can find pre-made mixes of exactly this kind of music for around $5. So look for the words:
"surf," "beach," "summer," "California," and "the Sixties." I bet you see the names of some of these bands on there. If you can play cassette tapes on your boom box, you can often find such cassettes for even cheaper!
Other summery styles include rockabilly, New Wave, Southern rock... and of course reggae!
Of course, you won't enjoy the music if you get a sunburn. Bring some sunscreen, please!
