Depends on your age and what your into. For nights out there's the obvious choices Broad street and brindley place or there's the Arcadian which has lot's of more tasteful bars, Hurst st which is the gay village but is quite mixed. Star City is 10 mins out of the city centre and that has a cinema, bars, restaurants, bowling and a big casino. Being the 2nd city B'ham is used to catering for Men away on 'business' trips so it has lot's of big casino's and lap dancing clubs. For things to do in the day there's cadbury world, sea life centre, millenium point and there's loads of museums and art galleries. There's loads of good places to go shopping and if you fancy something a little different, there's good links to stratford (shakespere county), nottingham, coventry etc. If you go to an information point in the city centre they will have loads of money off vouchers. For cheap nights out your best heading out on a thursday night as a lot of places do free entry and cheap drinks.

Theres plenty to do in Birmingham don't listen to the ones who slag it off they obviously have not been.
Cannon Hill Park
Black Country Living Museum
Cadbury World
Jewellery Quarter
Nature Reserve
Broad Street
etc.........
The City Centre has lots to offer such as museums and art gallerys, there are places around Birmingham that you might like to visit aswell-
Safari Park
Drayton Manor
Sutton Park
etc.......
Hope this helps.

There is the sealife centre in Brindley Place - went there recently had had a good laugh. That general area is full of restraunts and bars to relax in by the canal.

depends what you want to do. i would not recommend broad st - very busy and expensive. try the custard factory in digbeth, lots of good music and culture and not too expensive. or the rainbow pub a couple mins walk from there for live music. depends what you meant? day stuff or good nights out?
