At 98 degrees he is too hot!!! That temperature is boiling him alive.. the temps should never be allowed to go above 85 for very long. Please lower the temps NOW!!!! He is out because he is both over heated and stressed.
Yes he is going to die because he is being cooked alive.
Yes he also needs moisture but it is all evaporating or it is too hot anyway he can not breathe in those temps properly. Lower the temps to about 80 degrees slowly.. make sure the humidity (not moisutre which is different) is around 85% relative and he will be fine.. never allow the temps to raise that high. and do not allow the humidity to go below 75% relative.

When hermit crabs grow they get too big for their shell and will exit it and not go back inside.. You need to offer it a variety of shells that are a bit bigger than that one.. Take the shell your crab discarded and bring it in to your local pet shop that carries them... They can pick out a few of the proper sizes, but get a few of them.. They can be quite picky.. Normally they will sort through 2-3 or more shells before deciding on the perfect home.. If you do not provide the proper sizes shell for your crab soon enough, he will most likely die. Mine did that when he would not accept any shells as a new "home". I wouldn't recommend bringing the crab along with you to the pet shop, just becareful because he is very sensitive right now since his vulnerable areas are exposed, so try not to overly handle him right now or offer too much stress.

Like maximum all of us else pronounced, they do flow away their shells to stumble on bigger properties— or specifically situations they basically grow to be uninterested in theirs... What wasn't suggested, and that i had to function, it continually have extra effective shells on your cage. They like to alter, whether they do no longer might desire to. So its significant to maintain a handfull of different shells in there, so your little crab has a form to make a call from.

your hermit crab is looking for a bigger shell. You will need to put out some bigger shell that he can choose from. Just pick some that are a tad bit bigger than his old one.

Dude! Don't you know? Your little Hermie is looking for a new house...go to the pet store or beach and find a shell that's a little bigger than the last one he was in and put it in with him and watch the little dude move into his new house!

Do you have a bigger shell available, for in case his shell got too small? He might be trying to find a bigger 'home'.
