actually to the one answer...there ARE hundreds of dogs killed daily.
Secondly what happens to the horses no one wants? They aren't pets - they're livestock.
Third what if they aren't perfectly healthy? What if there is no home for them? What about the many who are bred "just so Dolly can have a foal" or "so the kids have the experience" then when the foal is about 8-9-10 months and starts hitting dominance issues and isn't fun it's ignored...and becomes a danger to be around through no handling or mishandling.
What about horses injured in accidents that, equally, are not suitable for the average owner? I once knew a mare who fell over on concrete - when she'd spazz out she'd confuse moving towards you and away from you. She'd have times she'd flip out and literally bounce off the walls of her stall. Her last foal - honestly - when weaned never nickered ONE TIME for her mama. The mare was that nutty. What to do with her? She wasn't safe to ride...she was not safe for experienced handlers let alone inexperienced ones.
Most point to euthanizing the horses - is the horse any less dead? Further - what of those who don't have room to bury a large animal...and what will those chemicals (DEADLY) do when leaching into groundwater at 50-100,000 per year. No one knows.
Slaughter is not a pleasant thing. The blame is put on race horses and breeders when the fact is MOST are unregistered adults..many with little to no training. That comes straight from killer buyers as to what they look for because they know no one wants them so they can get them cheap. What happens to those horses when that avenue is closed? When you have to sell a horse due to loss of pasture or other issues it HAS TO GO. There is no option to wait until you find a buyer or a home. I've been there. :-(

No it's not fair. But life is not fair my dear. I am a vegetarian and severely against animal slaughter period. Horses are not made into dogfood, the pet food industries cannot compete with kill buyer prices. Everyday innocent animals are murdered, whether they are cats, dogs, horses, cattle, sheep, ducks, chickens, fish....I could go on and on and on, but I won't because my hands are tired from replying to questions and doing my own research.
DON"T EAT GELATIN!!! It's made from hide, bones and other icky things of cows, fish, and pigs, not to mention the rats that crap and naw on the products while they're drying out to be ground into that deceptively fruity powder.

They don't use horse for glue anymore. They use other things for glue, and if they need the hoofs, they get them from cows or pigs.
They don't use horses for dog food either. They use them for steaks in Europe, ect. I personaly think that Europe and Japan can use their OWN horses if they want horse meat that badly.
What you should be worried about is the Premarin industry (PMU) which supplies a good portion of the horses going to slaughter.

Horse are not killed for glue or dog food anymore. They are slaughter for human consumption overseas.About 1200-2000 horse are inhumanely slaughtered every day.Of those over 90% are sound, healthy, young and in good flesh. The myth that sick, old, lame horses go to slaughter is false and is pro slaughter propaganda. These are people pets, not livestock. There is current legislation to stop this horrible practice in this country. Please go the below sites for more info on how you can help American horses.Or do a search for horse slaughter.

I see people that buy horses and sell them to the killers ,a lot of times the previous owner doesn't know ,I wish it was against the law... people need to be made aware of this daily killing of healthy beautiful animals .It has always made me so sad. There are also people in this country and other country's that eat horses as a food.

Along with many healthy and adoptable animals in shelters, that just didn't find their home within' the given limit.
Same with the animals who were taken away any chance of living a normal life, and thrown into cages, to be experimented on.
Also the wildlife who is trapped, before hunting, giving them no defense.
Life is cruel, and as much as you fight, someone will find new ways to corrupt the relationship between us and animals.

Horses are stock animals in general. Some are pets. Stock animals are raised for profit, and sold for many things like ,for meat in France. Pets are to enjoy.
