One example of an impromptu speech is during an interview with a potential employer. I would also suggest visiting a Toastmasters Club in your area. One of the parts of the meeting is Table Topics which is the impromptu section of every meeting. Also there are prepared speeches as well as evaluations on how to make the speech even better. I have been a member for nearly 10yrs & have gained alot from the organization in my speaking skills as well as devloping leadership qualities as well.

Do you want me to give one for you? My friend once gave an impromptu speech on how straws help homeless people. I gave one about how books are usually better than the movie (they gave me the quote, "Don't judge a book by its movie.") People have given speeches on letters (as in "W"), historical events, current events, etc. These are impromptu speeches from speech meets. I don't know if that's the context you were looking for, but they are certainly impromptu speeches.

Speech and debate clubs are the best place to see them. It is a very hard skill that takes time to practice and hone. But keep it up, it will help you in real life, it sharpens your brain and critical thinking skills.
