I think we should just intervene before they use nuclear weapons, terrorists in non-belligerant countries, or other very special circumstances such as genocide. Why does the international public have to involve themselves in every single regional war and fail? I have never heard of a lasting peace brokered by the UN that did not result in further hostilities later when they pulled out. The most lasting peace I see was when they just fought it out until both sides agreed the price was to much such as the European nations of WWII, Japan and China. I just don't see the benefits of these resolutions and peacekeeping forces when it comes to civil wars without genocide or wars between two countries like israel and lebanon. Tell me otherwise.

Because the only way to win a war is to win it completely. WW2 should have taught us this. We didn't just defeat the German and Japanese military, we also destroyed the civilian populations, the economies, and crushed the countries' spirit.

Unfortunately, we live in an age of 24 hour news coverage, and political correctness. This makes it difficult for a country to wage a total war, and win it completely.

Take the current conflict between Israel and Hamas, and Israel and Hezbollah. The only way to truly end the war is to totally destroy the enemy. Unfortunately, this requires the complete destruction of the places Hamas and Hezbollah occupy. This will result in the complete destruction of cities, economies, and massive civilian casualties. This can't be done with the world watching, so the conflict can never be truly resolved.

You know I agree, I think that the few Americans who want to help these feuding countries need to stop. That's like two disobedient siblings fighting and Mom (America) taking sides instead of giving them both a time out (America cutting off any beneficial pacifying ties to them). I feel that their is something definitely wrong when some of humanity believes violence will solve anything!

it would be easier to just turn our heads - just like when we were in school and the bully was kicking some kid around - it would be easier if we were just some nobody country but we are not - we are the United States of America - a proud country that believes in standing up for the little guy - for what is right. Sure some folks don't agree with the goverments decisions about what it right and where to help out but that is our system - we elect and they make decisions. My best advice to you is to either move and forget about it ......or.........get off your but and vote - be active - speak out about your views - hell run for office if you feel that strong about it.

the problem being that it comes to wars and genocide without interference. Either way, somebody is dying. The outside influence can limit the destruction, but only if done with an iota of competence.

As you can see by my name, I believe war is a natural part of life in this reality. The only reason for involvement in any conflict is due to some personal interest. War will be with us always, just as the poor shall be. We don't have to like it. It just is. Live your Life and be prepared to Live your Death. Live as a warrior in the world.

War for small it may be affects trading and economic development and in the modern global economic development is the key to other cultural developments.
After centuries of wars, and millions of people killed we have learned that small conflicts can escalate to big conflicts and that they can be prevented by early intervention.

I agree. It's time to stop acting like a mother getting between squabbling siblings, and let countries sort out their own problems.
