Hi. I have an original picture of the Challenger Space Shuttle just as it was taking off in 1984. I got it about 5 years ago when I went to Florida and my father's friend, who is a well known news editor, presented it to me. He asked me not to sell it, unless it came to my education, and I need rather an expensive amount to begin in two weeks. Can anyone give me an estimate or a quote what you think it'd be worth? He said it was real valuable. Thanks.

The trick is to find those that value a picture like that, and then put it up for some type of auction.

I have a lot of things that are of value, but do not know how to get it to the people that actually are willing to pay for them.

I know this does not help too much, but the key is to try and find out who would find and appreciate it being what it is....and when you do that, then you can make some good money.

Try some type of auction houses....that might work.

So, start with the phone book, or internet to see...of course there would be a fee for it, but you would be getting the best price for the market demand of your product.

Prices on ebay will be well below market value. That's assuming you could even find a listing the same or similar as the photo you describe.

The only value it has is sentimental, not commercial like an antique watch or bar of gold.

There may be someone out there that would pay a great deal for the shot (they'd pay more if you had the negative) but finding them is the trick. Start by researching organizations of people who enjoy space exploration.

You won't get your answers (or the full value of the shot) in two weeks however. Take out a student loan and put the photo away (stored properly) for your grandchildren.

Look it up on Ebay.
