Yes, they are made by Father Christmas's polar orbiting space station. This - as you will know - arrived from the star system Rosa Nasa about 100 years ago and has been responsible for chimney incursions to implant children with alien DNA ever since. My understanding is that the astronauts themselves carry alien microbes that detatch themselves from the hosts, and actually invade and assimilate OTHER people, but not the Astronauts themselves... cuz... what to THEY know about flying shuttles?
