If you're interested in the holocaust, I have many memoirs to suggest
I Have Lived A Thousand Years by Livia Bitton Jackson (there are at least two more books in the series)
The Cage by Ruth Minsky Sender (To Life is the sequel to that one).
In My Hands: Memories of A Holocaust Rescuer by Irene Gut Opdyke and Jennifer Armstrong
Night by Elie Weisel
Beautiful Days of My Youth: My Six Months in Auschwitz & Plaszow by Ana Novac
Other good memoirs...
The Girl With The White Flag by Tomika Higa

Try Land of a Thousand Hills: My Life in Rwanda by Rosamund Halsey Carr.
p.s. Memoirs of a Geisha is a NOVEL, not a real memoir!

This Boys Life: A Memoir, by Tobias Wolff
A movie was made about this book with Leonardo DiCaprio as Tobias Wolff. You might also try "Duke of Deception" by Geoffrey Wolff. These are brothers writing about their lives post parents divorce. Tobias went with his mother, while Geoffrey lived with his father.
"The Liars Club" by Mary Karr. The authors childhood in East Texas.
"Cherry" by Mary Karr. The authors teen years.
I have not read this book but the premise is fascinating.
"My Dark Places" by James Ellroy. The author writes about his childhood beginning at age 10 when his mother is murdered. The case in never solved so Mr. Ellroy hires a private detective to investigate.

Not sure if it's a memoir; but, "Red Star Over China" by Edgar Snow, is a facinating book about the beginning of communism in China. Edgar Snow was an American jounalist, here (in China), during that time.

I can suggest a online site to you that has many memoirs to choose from.
"a memoir is how one remembers one's own life, while an autobiography is history, requiring research, dates, facts double-checked." Gore Vidal, in his memoir "Palimpsest"
Its called the Memory Archive and you can even add your own memoir :

Read a memoir by Lauren Bacall. They were great. She talks about when Humphrey Bogart died and how she got along. She also tells about her movie career

I, too, love memoirs. I suggest "Running With Scissors" by Augusten Burroughs, "Devil in the Details" by Jenny Traig, "The Last Time I Wore a Dress" by (can't remember), and my all-time favorite, "Wasted" by Marya Hornbacher (it's about her struggle with eating disorders...beautifully written). I hope you enjoy whatever you read!
