A Dutch court refused Monday to ban a political party whose main goal is to lower the age of sexual consent from 16 to 12.

I think the age of consent should be 30. That is just about when people usually start acting like an adult. Really though, 16 is too early, but 12 or anything less should be out of the question.

Some US states have "Romeo and Juliet" laws that effectively lower the age of consent when both partners are underage. I have heard that Idaho has an age of consent of 14! In Kansas, where I live, it is 16, but if both partners are between the ages of 13 and 19, they are both considered age consent.

good for them 12 is way 2 young. I have a twelve year old daughter she wouldnt even know how to have sex. She hasnt even been kissed by a guy. Not to mention she isnt in love or would be clueless on birth control. Some twelve year olds havent started to have their period yet so obviously their body isnt even ready. My 20 year old daughter didnt start here period until she was almost 14. No 12 year old even wants sex so the only thing that can come out of this law is bad things. like teen pregnecy and higher adoption and abortion rates

I think that is too young. you arent even a teenager yet at 12! I dont know what they were thinking... 16 should be young enough! children should not be having sex so by lowering the age, that is just promoting it... which is the last thing the world needs with this whole overpopulation issue...

HEY what about free speech? The Dutch didn't agree to 12, they just didn't ban the party who want to discuss it. When there is a vote, it will get stopped.

there were more to this.. i think they wanted to lift ban on child pornography and i think they wanted to lower the age to 16(porn stars from 18) and also this reducing of age from 16 to 12..
honestly i wish not... ofcourse there are a lot who have sex before 16..still ..,12 is still a little too young

Sounds like they are a party full of pedophiles. 12 is much to young so is 16. There is no way a child is emotionally developed enough.

12 is to young for consent. Wouldn't the pedophiles be in heaven if that happened. Get a child to agree so they stay out of prison to rape again.

Considering how socially liberal the Dutch are, I suppose this is to give pedophiles more freedom. How thoughtful of them. What next - 12 year old prostitutes? I guess us US intolerant nutjobs are just too narrow minded and sexually repressed to understand.

I think that is horrible. i dont think 12 yr olds should even know what sex is let alone be giving consent to sex at that age. that is why there are so many young children having children now
