I want to make my own e-mail client, with an addressbook and (maybe) a calendar, but I don't know where to start.
Any ideas? I know html, javascript, and a bit php.

You will need to learn IMAP, POP3 or some other mail retrieval protocol and perhaps some network programming (sockets). I recommend you learn the PHP IMAP functions and try them out. As for the calendar, send me an email via my website and I will send you some code I developed recently:

check out "hotscripts.com" and do a search under php programs. There are a few chat clients out there that are open source that you can freely modify to use as your own chat client.
