There are rare cases where there were shorter models (Devon Aoki 5'6"). But when you look at it, most of these women have a strong monetary backing. (Devon's father, Rocky, owns an extremely successful and well-known restaurant chain, Benihana). Unless your family has a bank account in Switzerland, I would give up your dreams of going runway. 14-18 females are require to be 5'7 at least for reputable agencies, while 18+ must be at least 5'8-5'10. At your height, the best bet would be to go into print.

Straight up, your chances are looking slim.
Yes, the average model is about 5'10", 34-24-34 which means, that traditionally the odds are stacked against you.

Regardless, your height should not be a deterrant for you to at least try. Kate Moss is 5'6"-5'7" with a face photographers die to shoot, so her height didn't effect her chances. Maybe you have the next "it" look.

Print is an option, but, keep in mind most agencies want a girl that can do print, runway, commercials and editorial. So you might want to check out agencies that do more commerical work instead of fashion.

It'll be a challenge, but, all you need is just one person saying "Yes" and you're good to go. So don't give up if this is what you want to do.

Stacey Mackenzie was shunned by every agency until she had Jean Paul Gauthier look at her and say "That's the girl I want" then the former "ugly duckling" took the modelling scene by storm in the 90's

No way. I'm male and I'm 5'9", and I remember reading somewhere that my height is too short even for women. Those models are crazy-tall.

Oh, my cousin is a model--she's 5'7", but when she was modelling at 15, she was featured in some news report on child models. The narrator talked about how her height is fine the way she is now (because of her age), but if she doesn't grow taller than that, she could face some career problems in the future. I think height is a major factor in modelling and if you're too short, your chance of success is very slim.

Most runway designers will not let you model for them on the runway, however, you could probably do close-ups and beauty shots. To look taller you can wear Vertical lines and diagonal lines with a vertical slant. Just be sure to always wear heels! Good luck!

You are too short for runway work, but you could do commercials or prints. I'm 5' 7", and i do prints (i'm pretty young though). If you have the look, i'm sure you could find some modeling work!

Good luck ♥

Are you a guy or gal? If your a gal I personaly think as long as they are pretty, and cute, hieght does not matter. If you are a guy, why the heck are you a model? What type of model, a fashion, or penthouse? If you want to be a fashion one then they do perfer hieght, but I don't, they are long and flat. Playboy models are sexy, and work what they got! Anyways, I say NO!

In the UK for a catwalk model I think you've got to be 5ft 8, but not sure about everywhere else. Although they have camera tricks so you could maybe model in mags.

Runway, no. Ads and prints, maybe. Ask a modeling agency for more specific information.
