I thought I was the only one...Believe it or not I actually enjoy them. I use them as my own private movie to put me to sleep. The cool thing is it's really like watching a movie because I don't know what will appear next or what is going to happen. I don't understand how that works ...I mean it's my head you'd think I could control the pictures...ha. Sometimes during "the movie" I get the feeling that I am shrinking and I am really really small and then in the next minute I have the feeling of being a giant in a very small room.
Thanks for sharing and not making me feel so weirded out!

There is two possible explanations (according to me!):
1- Even if you're not meditating or asleep yet, it is possible that your brain is producing theta waves. I personnally associate this state with being atune with the 90% of my brain that I usually don't use. It could be related to a mild form of ESP.
2- Your subconscious mind could use this quiet time to get thru to you (just before sleep is the only time when we do absolutely nothing, so that is why we can perceive those images or sounds better at that time).
Those images could be a trigger to something important you have to know or a memory you have suppressed and that you need to remember. Subconscious things are not always dark or negative ones.
Try to see if those images are always the same, how they make you feel and what they mean to you.
If nothing rings a bell, just go back to explanation #1 and enjoy the show!

This is normal, I too have had that happen, but for me, it doesn't only happen at night. I can just close my eyes and see just about anything from patterns, to colors, faces, skulls, all types of things. Although I can't really give a scientific explanation, I think it may just be that we always try to find images of things. Don't know if you've ever seen the image of 'Satan' in some of 9/11 pics, but some people say that as humans, we try to see things that may not be there. I'm a firm believer in all things paranormal, I think that people see things for a reason. It could be a warning, it could just foretell of things that may happen in the not-to-distant future. Whatever the case may be for you (being a believer or not). Just take it with a grain of salt, I think you 'd be surprised at how many "unexplainable" things happen to everyday people like you and me.

We don't always know why we see what we do when we close our eyes, and we don't know if what we see ever has a meaning to it, until later on...
most of the time our dreams and imagination awakens desires, memories, fears and ambitions but we will also see people of past and maybe even our future. I say our future because I believe I travel time in my sleep. Not going into all that but the dreams I have.
I create art from my dreams, and visions while awake triggered by these dreams. Months and even a year or so later these images has found relevance to other images/dreams and what could be science, mythology religion, you name it it is there.
Have you considered drawing your images from your minds eye?
If unable to draw then write with detailed description, you could be later on finding a very good purpose to those images whether just relating to your personal life, somebody elses or issues buried and ignored.

It is a phenonemon that happens to some people. It's not much different to dreaming, is probably some kind of between sleep and dream state. I get these images after I've taken ecstasy and been up a long time. Nothing to worry about or abnormal whatsoever. No need to seek any psychiatric response! But cool, really, quite sensitive an ability I think.

Hypnogolic hallucinations - think I spelled it right, these are in black and white and unchanging like a photo.
Opening up to a higher state of awareness as your conscious mind relaxes - faces may change expression like suddenly smiling at you, nothing to fear and beautiful to be able to do.
If you are alarmed, simply ask the face if it is of the light, if it is not, it will move away and leave, if it is, then it may be one of your guides trying to communicate with you, this will give you a warm safe feeling, as he is your very deepest friend and companion.
Love and light

I can do that, but it's because i'm shutting my eyes too hard--it makes images seem to appear--really ugly stuff--like you said- old face, then they fade and green lights, that change,..
