Why is it that in any movie where a city gets destroyed or something like that it's always New York????

I realize that other cities are blown up too, but " Day After Tomorrow, Indepencence Day, Armageddon, The Core.. and many more" NYC is blown up.. who cares about LA.. that only gets destroyed once and a while.. they always make sure to feature NYC

Because New York City is such a big city and it symbolizes America, so it's more for emotional effect. Or to indicate the significance of the threat. For example, not even New York City could withstand the alien invaders in Independence Day, therefore this must be bad. Same thing in Armageddon.

The old Godzilla movies destroyed Tokyo but no one seemed to care. Somehow, trashing NYC is popular.

Well, you haven't seen Independence Day (Wash DC & LA were shown blow up), Earthquake (LA), Volcano (LA)... should I go on?

Lot's of big cities are the target in disaster movies, not just NYC.
