Yes, I think so. There's some research that shows we make assumptions about people depending on their name. For example, in the UK we'd assume that Hilda, Agnes, Walter and so on would be quite elderly. Advertisers target names in this way (and send older people gardening catalogues, for example) and also because names can suggest which "class" we belong to - justly or unjustly!

I went on a windsurfing course some years ago. We were lined up on the harbour on the first morning to meet the instructor. "I hope you lot are going to be better than last week's lot," the instructor said. "Last week I had to cope with a load of Wallys and a few Wendys!" Then turning to me, he asked, "What's YOUR name?" Yes!! I have a very Irish name which people can't pronounce and when i tell them on the phone i've to repeat it about 5 times then they're like, oh ok then, as if i'm stupid!! I sometimes change my name in work when on the phone and give somthing simple cause by the end of the day i'm so fed up!!
