In my novel 'Deirdre, the Oyster's Pearl' the butchy lesbian dominatrix is termed 'Shelly' (genuine call 'Michelle' of route). i presumed 'Shelly' below female, style of androgynous, which changed into the point. I have a tendency to apply rather cliché or overused 'pop' names for much less-appropriate characters, like 'Amanda' and 'Jessica' (no longer that I surely have some thing antagonistic to those names, or people talked about as those names, yet that the names themselves have regrettably develop into hackneyed). rather than %. a butchy-sounding call, why no longer go with a splendidly stylish, 'girlish' call and then use a very bland, sexless nickname for her, like an Elizabeth being talked about as 'Liss' or 'wager', or a Jean or Jeanne being talked about as 'Jan'. Or make up her initials, like 'Paula Jean' being talked about as 'PJ' or 'Deirdre' being talked about as 'Dede'... or my niece being talked about as 'Gigi'.
