in many western societies they do not hesitate and all ppl i met with no one of them find it breach of common courtesy to do such thing in front of others. maybe it has something to do with cultural differences but definitely i do not find it funny, its disgust. what do u think?

it is a funny subject lol but I why do we laugh at farting no one laughs when you burp? is it because it can smell so bad? Maybe the noise ? But the burp can as well smell and make very loud noise too? I am not sure ,but man get a whoopee cushion and sit next to someone and sit on it LOL it is funny to see reaction to this and also how no one will say anything either! My husband and my dad both like to go down super market isle and let a silent but dead one , man that make you run ,and a good way to clear crowed isle for them. I think it is natural and should not hold it in , I'm sure if you did could cause some bad things to happen to inside after holding it too long, maybe the people who are stuck up and bitchy all the time are and have been holding farts in way too long ,,,,,,,,,,hum just let it go!

Even though it's a natural body function, there are ways to relieve yourself in public without making a big show about it. If you are among people you trust and are comfortable with, and they're comfortable with you, then by all means -- let it rip. It probably won't make much of a difference to them; they'll probably laugh at you.

However, if you're not in the presence of trusted friends, you probably should find a way to excuse yourself from the room/area if you have to break wind. It's only rude when you're in the company of new people, or professionals. Amongst friends, anything goes.

Not to joke or make light of this situation, but there are some Medical situations that people have, that do not allow them to suddenly run off when they have an urgent gas bubble in their bowels. Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Crohns, Colitis, etc...

The body digests foods and when food is broken down it releases gaseous material, that gas needs to be released in a "belch" or a "fart". It can be distasteful, but it is no different than someone sweating when it's hot, or your eyes watering if dust gets in them.

It has become a social stigma because people are selfish and are concerned more about themselves than the physical well-being of others.

Let's be serious... everybody does it.

I'd much rather let it rip than try to awkwardly sneak out a silent one. The loud farts tend to be so socially awkward and against the norms that instead of a disgusting face made by everyone else at the table it 99% of the time results in a good long heart felt laugh.

So I say - Bite your lip, raise one cheek, and let it go!

oh, Arabian Guy..that's a good one! Talking about different cultures and countries. I have a cousin in the US, when he goes into an Restaurant, he asked his 5 year old Daughter to pull his finger...and then hes farts...I mean right there in the crowed of ppl! We have a saying in Germany...from Goethe...Warum rübestes und Fortzes du nicht, hat es dir nicht geschmacket! that means- why did U not burbs and fart...did U not like my food.....( it kinda got lost in the translation) but U no what I'm trying to say. Now, I don't think anyone cares about that anymore in Germany, but we also have 2 different scenarios here...1.) the loud ones, and the quiet ones...which one is worse: the quiet one...who are the most stinky one....or the loud ones who are the most annoying one...technically speaking, of course...

It is not rude, its embarrassing.

I tend to overlook it, cos I am to busy empathizing with apersomn who does that, to take offense. Like who has not farted out of turn at least once?

How can it be rude? Although I would feel better if people did it silently. And watched their diet. Nothing is worse than sharing an elevator with a guy who farts at the top of his colons( I was about to say lungs, but thenI rememberedthat lungs have nothing to do with it.).

I don't think it's right to do it in front of anyone..sure if you can't help it but most of the time they have enough time to walk away. After all we aren't animals are we? I don't wanna smell some strangers p!&p...makes me ill. my husband will do it anywhere..I mean he could hold it for the first year of so of being together now all of a sudden he can let it rip where ever...I'll walk into a room and it will stink like heck..and all he can say is sorry or nothing at all..i don't wanna smell his stuff either. Nasty a&$

It is not rude except for the person who makes a big deal out of it. If a person is close enough to a public restroom they should try to go there. When I was a child if we laughed we had to claim it. As the old saying goes every dog smells his own.

in a cultured and civilized society u show care for others that's called social values. fart is something which others wont like. even u wont like yourself if u have smelling sensation. so it's rude, funny and uncivilized behaviour in almost every part and every society of the world

I agree that it is disgusting and vulgar , but I do find it stupidly hilarious , I admit it is silly to think so and don't know why I somehow can't help but laugh about it . Perhaps because it's such brash and vulgar behavior I don't know how one would properly respond to it. lol
