It was an account of an actual shooting on a school playground. In 1979, the group shot to international fame with their second UK No. 1, "I Don't Like Mondays".[1] This was equally successful, as well as controversial; Geldof wrote it in the aftermath of Brenda Ann Spencer's attempted massacre at an elementary school across the street from her house in San Diego, California, at the beginning of 1979. It was later covered by rock group Bon Jovi, when Geldof joined them for a duet of the song on June 25, 1995, at a concert in Wembley Stadium in London, almost exactly ten years after Geldof performed the song at Live Aid.

I don't know that one, however...Who likes Mondays!!! Oh wait I do!! I don't have to work in the summer on Mondays!!!! Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha, HA,!!

However come Fall I am starting a petition to implement a three day weekend for all non service industry employees!! Saturday through Monday!! How much more productive would people be if we could be inebriated Friday AND Saturday and rest both Sunday and Monday!!!

I feel this could help the work force as well as bring families together!!! I know I would see my family more if I could be drunk rather than hungover!!!

It's all right there in the lyrics. She lived across the street from the school, just didn't want to go to school that day. Google "i don't like mondays story" you'll get a huge list.

Rumour has it that it is a true story written about a girl who didn't like going to school, hence the line "...shoot the whole place down...", she actually ended up taking a gun to school and letting fly with lead..

I don't know why, but urban legend has it about a girl who woke up one Monday morning in England and went to school and started shooting.(not sure of the outcome)
