Desktops are cheaper, more reliable, lower cost to upgrade and can run many more toys. I recommend DELL.
For for laptops, I recommend getting a Toshiba from a local retailer. Look at Costco or Wal-mart. You see, Costco takes returns easilly. Toshibas are well made and work good for you. But use a case when carring it. One drop can kill any laptop. Also, be safe. Drug addicts love to steal laptops, because they are as good as cash. They will sell your laptop for $100 in a few hours. Laptops are the most stolen items in America.

I like them about equally as well. The specs aren't much different between my laptop and desktop. I just think in terms of what task it is I'm planning to determine which will work out best. I set my desktop up with a monitor array so that I can have literally tons of windows open and still have them where I can see everything. But the laptop of course has the advantage of being highly portable, so if I need to be on the move or just want to lay in bed and use the computer, then its a much better option.

I had a desktop and now have a laptop and I'm telling you, I miss my desktop, since I cant play graphical games on my laptop. It irritates me because my graphics on my laptop isnt as good as a desktop. But the laptop is better when you only want to work on it, cause then you can take it with you more easily.

same here. Problems is I usually play 3D games on my PC because of the graphics card. Laptops with graphics cards cost a lot.
What I plan to do is wait for the Nintendo Wii to be released, buy one then sell my PC and but a wifi enabled laptop, even if its a bit slower, since will only be using it for surfing, chat and email.
Won't be most cutting edge graphics, but a lot of people are psyched about the wiimote, me included.

Laptop. I am sitting next to the pool now. You can't do that with a desktop.
