Becuase film is not aimed to be artsy... it is aimed at selling the story to the public and trying to get as many people as possible to see the movie... and the purpose of making the film is not just to entertain but to make several companies millions of dollars.

Two reasons:
1) They make money on their product
2) They make their product (the film) for the purpose of making money.
3) They have sponsors, backers, and advertising
4) They take money from companies to allow that company's product to be shown in the film (such as CocaCola which pays big money to have the actors in the movie drinking Coke instead of Pepsi)
5) They have employees (actors, directors, film crew, sound people, makeup artists, etc.)
6) The above mentioned employees are paid by a company (21st Century Fox, Disney, etc.)

So there are six reasons it is considered a business instead of an art. Yes, the final product is a work of art, but that is the final result put together by the company, employees, advertisers, etc. And therefore it IS a business rather than an art.

1. Documentaries are more about learning than Art and they are in fact films.

2. Money is put into a film with the intent of getting more money out of the film. The more money goes in, hopefully the more money comes out. It works best that way so that more movies can be made, otherwise films would be few and far between and probably only for the rich.

1:Cause people pay to look at a movie. Are alotta Art Museums and displays that are free.
2: The Residuals, like if Actor X stars in a movie, and has in Contract that they will recieve a portion of all the proceeds from distribution, then each time it is shown or bought, the actor, as well as Producer get a Residual.
Hence that is a Business.
