Depends on what size family, and were in Maryland or Virginia. Near Baltimore or DC, ( probably any large city ) you'll need a lot more than if you live someplace that's largely rural. Of course, if you live in a large urban area, you can usually find a higher paying job, so it tends to work out.

Maryland is high but I think a report said that the average Maryland resident makes at least $50,000 a year.

depends on which parts of Maryland and Virginia you're talking about - Northern Virginia and Suburan DC Maryland... you better be making at least 60,000.00
