First we find the area of the concrete. The pond is 4.25 m by 4 m, so the pond + border is 4.75 m by 4.5 m (add .25 meters to each side for a total of .5 meters in each dimension). Thus the total area of the concrete is (4.75*4.5)-(4.25*4)=4.375 m². Multiply by .18 m in height to get your volume of 0.7875 m³.

4.75(4.25 +.25+.25) & 4.5(4+0.25+0.25) are the dimensions of the external rectangle.

Area of the outer rectanle -inner rectacngle =(4.75*4.5)-(4*4.25)= 4.375 m square

This area * thickness = concrete required
4.375* 0.18 =0.79 m cube

this way you will have four square shaped area left at each of the corner ,so it's wrong !

I am always right !

look at the borders as 4 pillars laying down.
2 pillars are 4m x 0.25m x 0.18m
the other 2 pillars are Length =>(4.25m + 0.25m + 0.25m) x 0.25m x 0.18m.
Add the volume of the four Pillars and that should be the Volume required.
I'd do it for you but it is your homework after all.

I doubt anyone will do your homework for you. This is an easy arithmetic problem.

cubic volume is LxWxD...
Surely you can convert centimeters to meters and vice versa...

(4.25+.25) * (4+.25) *.018 - 4.25 * 4 *.018=.04

Total Area w/ border - inside area of pond

18 cm. = .018 m
