I got engaged at 25, hubby was 33 then. When we got married, I was 27 and he was 35. We've now been married almost a year. We made the engagement long because we got engaged 3 months after we met and we really wanted to save up money for the wedding - it worked out great!!

This seems strange, but i have waited 12 years. Having said this, I'm not wanting to get married to this guy any more as I believe that I've waited far too long. I guess I have fallen out of love with the concept of marriage.

I am 25 years old now, but I was 24 years old when I got married. I didn't date around until I was over 21 years old. I only had 2 boyfriends in my adult single years. For me I wanted to make sure I knew where I wanted to be in life and be self-efficent before I decided to start dating. I was not looking for someone to take care of me. I looked for someone to SHARE my life with.
I knew my husband for 10 years. We started dating much later and we were engaged and married 7 months after we first started seriously dating.

I guess that depends on what kind of ceremony you decide on. With the difficulty getting churches and reception halls it makes it difficult to plan a wedding in less than a year or two depending on if you have your heart set on a particular day or month to get married.
If the wedding ceremony isn't of that much importance then I doubt there is any time limits on how long to be engaged.

My husband and I didn't have an "offical" engagement. We always knew we were going to get married, so we didn't really get engaged at all! We just decided one day "Hey, how about next week" and called up family and friends and got married!
Traditionally though... one year is the standard. That gives you plenty of time to plan the wedding and have things set.

when my husband and I got engaged we'd already been together for 4 years and lived w/eachother for 95% of that time, so we knew each other very well. We were married 3 months later. Our 2 year anniversary is comming up and things couldn't be better (then again we don't have kids yet..lol)

For the right guy...years. Not forever but if I loved him I could wait a while until he was comfortable and ready.
