It only seems that way because you don't ever watch the news or read Wikipedia about the latest hurricane season.

Hurricanes have had male names for 26 years and you've probably been smoking crack for all that time.

Lol have you heard of hurricane Andrew 1992 - Andrew is responsible for 23 deaths in the United States and three more in the Bahamas, Hugo 1989 - Hugo was responsible for 21 deaths in the mainland United States, Gilbrt 1988 Dennis 2005 - Dennis caused 42 deaths - 22 in Haiti, 16 in Cuba, 3 in the United States, and 1 in Jamaica, Ivan 2004, Charley 2004, Keith 2000, Floyd 1999, Mitch 1998?

You must just remember the cold hearted female ones better :)

The fact that chirpy weather reporters treat hurricanes like cartoon characters is a bit worrying. Still, it's less nauseating than news reporters proudly articulating the corny hollywood-style names given to military campaigns. And now the latest news from Operation FireBall!

They all don't have female names. Remember Andrew that hit Florida in the '90's. I also remember a Charlie from a long time ago, and Ivan. I think the weather service alternates between male & female names. Just some of the worst ones have fallen on the female names rotation.

It hasn't been that way for a few years now but it was because hurricanes came from the sea which any sailor will tell you can be a harsh mistress. The sea was/is considered female so her storms were her wrath visitied upon humans.

Hurricanes are given feminine names because before a women started her period she would have P.M.S. During that time she would get very irratable and throw things around and get very angry..hence the saying "Her-ricane".

Not quite: Hugo, Erin, Andrew. Its just happenstance that the female hurricanes are sometimes stronger and do more damage.

They are given male names also, but the female ones are more violent. And they are the ones we remember the most.
