I did not say the American people knowingly gave to the IRA,
As they did not know it was for the IRA.
They believed it was for the Irish people to help them
McDONALDS DID that is FACT ,
WRITE to the head office ask them to DENY IT,
The Irish people are a BEAUTIFUL people,There is peace in Ireland,
It is the same with Americans they are a great people and a great nation
We need America
It is the Strongest Nation on EARTH so we look to the AMERICAN NATION to protect all PEOPLE
The American Nation is the only one that can really be a
......GLOBAL POLICE FORCE....

I've no idea about McDonalds, but there have been fair few Americans, particularly on the East Coast that have had a warped view of Northern Ireland for decades.
The IRA have always recieved money raised by private citizens in the US (mostly through NORAID), but this was regularly eclipsed by the funds provided by states like Libya.
9/11 has changed what the Irish-American community deem acceptable actions by the IRA (as seen by the White House snub to Sinn Fein following the murder of Robert McCartney), but the US Government has been broadly supportive of the UK since the mid 80s.
It's no secret that NORAID has been closely watched by the FBI for many years.
On balance, the United States has a positive influence on reaching a political settlement in Northern Ireland.
And given the vast profits of McDonalds, if they were to donate 10% to the IRA, I would have expected them to be much, much more effective than they really were!!

Lots of people supported NORAID & the IRA in the 1980s, the Americans in force because of the reasons for the so called struggle here in Ireland. I would say McDonalds was not the only corporation to fund NORAID. However, times have changed, & we cannot dwell in the past, it is only by letting go of the hatred that exists in Northern Ireland, that our communities can move forward to create a shared society. It is bigots, who cannot acknowledge that there were 2 sets of terrorists, each funded from various sources, rather than a them & us scenario. It makes me very upset, that people like you, can refuse to eat a burger because of actions of the past!!! That is truly tragic, rather than worrying about who did what!

Please...
This is an old urban myth spawned from a mix-up on the McDonalds website. It does say IRA yes but IRA means something like "Inland Revenue Account" (American equiv. of National Insurance). It has nothing to do with with an Irish terrorist group. As terrible as tax is, it's hardly murder..

unsurprisingly this is correct, as is the fact that the american government also funded and supplied aid to the IRA. which didn't go down too well in england, what with the deaths and destruction and little things like that.
funnily enough the USA also traided saddams secret police in the little known skills of physical information retrieval (torture), supplied the ingredients and training for nerve gas and generally have been a destablising force in the middle east for generations. The UK have done the same though, so no biggie there...
Still don't know why the rest of the planet doesn't trust the west... :/ just uppity johhny-foreigners i guess
NB: to any who don't believe any of this (which is understandable as there is no reason to suspect (ignoring history and annoying things like facts) that our leaders are corrupt, frat-boy and eton-bred oil-whores on a religeous crusade for the one true god, you have at your fingertips the greatest information service ever created. Use it. Ignorence is no longer a defense.
scared? nah...
eep :o
i wasn't going to ruin my original point with nastiness but its worth reading the posts above and trying to guess thier nationalities. its not a hard game

Although it's true, and I am British, It would be difficult to find any large company that isn't doing something wrong.
That's just the way the world is today.
Gene Kelly donated his money to the IRA and insisted some of it was spent on guns, that doesn't means he didn't make good movies.
Dialogue is always a better solution than hate, especially when otherwise good people cannot see that what they are doing is wrong.
It's when they know it's wrong you are allowed to knock there stupid little heads off.

I know it's just like every other country where you have good ppl, bad ppl & weird ppl BUT the perception we have over here in australia is that america is one of the most overweight/obese countries in the world...i have seen it on the news a few times, an sometimes it really dosn't suprise me..when i go to the movies they do an american size large coke...omfg its huge like who needs that much lol?? Also alot of crime, if you got stabbed or shot on the street people wouldnt notice or help. Also get the impression that alot of americans are arrogant and in love with themselfs and that they think their country is the only important one in the world. I know not all americans are like this and i have talked to a fair few americans who were nice, i dont judge every american just because of the bad few either, i have nothing against you lot...just the a*sholes which you will find in any country anywayz!

The key phrase is YOU believe they give money.
"for I believe they are still giving money" Americans donated to terrorism? You know this to be true ? I don't think so. Did you ever stop to think you may not have a clue about what you post.
Don't believe everything you read, when you do, you fall for anything. A multi national corporation is not going to openly or otherwise fund controversial groups that inflict harm to others, if it were true, it would make CNN news and they would be sunk.

Well, I don't have anything to worry about, because I never eat at McDonalds. And considering McDonalds is an international corporation, you can't blame just the Americans for it. By the way, where is your proof?! I don't see any sources listed for your claim! If you want terrorism stopped in Ireland, then stop it yourself, don't expect anyone else to do it for you.

This is not only a silly question, but a ridiculous remark.
People here in the US DID NOT INTENTIONALLY SUPPORT THE 911 ATTACKS. That is ludicrous.
We Americans love this country and would not knowing-so provide aid to terrorists.
You offer an absurd theory that no one in America can comprehend.
