I've never been to Old Trafford (not a United fan), but at football matches I prefer being as close to the half-way line as possible, that way you've got a pretty good view of the action in both halves.

Hopefully, you won't be sitting in the away fans section. I was one of 6,000 Barnet fans who had the absolute pleasure of visiting Old Trafford last season when we played Man U in the Carling Cup, but I was a little disappointed with the view from my seat in the East Stand.
Although I could see all of the pitch, I was positioned too high up to see the players clearly; I thought that I was going to have a nose bleed! I also couldn't appreciate the overall view of the ground as the roof of the East Stand obscured a large portion.
Ideally, the best place to watch any match is around the halfway line, 20 feet or so up.
Good luck with finding a decent spot!

I WOULD RECOMMEND SITTING ON THE SIDE NEAR THE HALFWAY LINE IF POSSIBLE.THAT WAY YOU CAN USUALLY SEE ALL OF THE PITCH. I KNOW IT SOUNDS STUPID BUT DONT SIT ON FRONT ROWS AS SITTING TO LOW DOWN CAN ALSO RUIN YOUR VIEW.I AM NOT SURE IF THIS IS STILL THE PROBLEM BUT BEHIND THE GOAL AT MAN UTD MOST FANS STAND THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE GAME.ALSO WHEN AT THE SEMI FINAL THIS YEAR AT OLD TRAFFORD I WAS LOOKING UP AT NEW STAND RECENTLY BUILT,AND THOUGHT THAT SPECTATORS WERE TO FAR AWAY FROM PITCH SO LOOKING DOWN AT PLAYERS FROM THEIR POSITION,WOULD MAKE THEM LOOK LIKE ANTS. BUT WITH THIS BEING YOUR FIRST MATCH I BELIEVE ANYWHERE YOU SIT WILL BE GOOD AS LONG AS THE ATMOSPHERE IS EXCELLENT.TRY AND GO TO A PREMIERSHIP GAME IF POSS,BUT TICKETS ARE HARD TO GET.(LIVERPOOL FAN)

I think you should just take what seat you are given pal, tickets to that poo hole are like gold dust. All the foreign businessmen and none mancs have the good ones. And the best place to sit at anyground is behind the goal and hope that you're team scores at the end you sit.

I think you'll find that you don't really have a choice. I personally prefer behind the goal - to one side - so no view restriction. I am a chelsea fan and prefer the mathew harding stand. If you are not a season ticket holder you will get put anywhere
