If all, or most, of the wealthy people set aside some of their money for the cause, we could end the starvation you all see going on across the world. Answer this question:

How is it we have the money and technology to send man on the Moon, and robots on Mars, but we can't figure out how to end world hunger?

I am so with you on this. I can understand the different classes, but I can't understand why people are going hungry.

And yes I do agree is it not more important to feed the hungry then to send a robot to Mars.

As to why this is so, that is because people priories are mixed up. Yes finding out what is on Mars is wonderful, but not when their are children dying of starvation on Earth.

If there weren't anyone making some serious profit, there would be even more starvation. A lot of rich people do make a lot of humanitarian donations. But if they aren't all conceited, they don't go announcing it on the news. Besides, when people hear that someone is giving money away, they all think they should get some , too.

As far as the US, the only way there are that many people in poverty is by changing the definition of poverty. We've got homeless people with TVs; that's just absurd. I might be wrong, but I doubt if any of the hungry people in Africa have a TV. A lot of the starvation has to do with local politics and logistics. If the local leaders are corrupt, and expect huge kickbacks to allow vehicles with aid to get to the people who need it, then the people trying to deliver the aid may not be able to afford it. Sometimes the local "leaders" jut hijack any shipments, and then try to make a profit on it. That's part of what was going on in Somalia.

It would seem that all the technology and knowledge that we've gained so far STILL isn't enough to overcome the power of human stupidity in large groups....

That is a VERY good question! And if you look around you most of us Americans are overweight and our children are overindulged! Maybe the mentality is 'this is mine and I'm not helping any freeloaders' It seems perfectly logical that if everyone in the world (who could) donated just $1.00 toward world hunger it would be abolished. Do many people even think of those less fortunate?
I feel as if Gates and Bono are doing an excellent job, but I also feel that charity starts at home, in the US we have homeless, hungry, sick children and people but no one to give their misery a voice. Other causes and countries are more exposed in the limelight, and maybe since we are supposed to be the richest country in the world it is a blight on us to have our own citizens suffering.
Hopefully the youth of today will feel the same as you and step up into the positions of tomorrow to eradicate all that can be to end human suffering one country at a time. It CAN be done!

We, the people, are the problem. Celebrities could not earn millions of dollars if we did not buy gossip magazines, pay outrageous money for movies and the marketing gimmicks they promote. Nobody balks at spending money to go to a sports game, but will moan about paying teachers who have more influence over children day to day than any sports star could (or should). If everyone could earn a fair wage based on merit and actual contribution to society, everyone would be able to afford to live someplace besides the streets. If everyone had equal access to health care, mental illness and physical problems could be addressed so people could function in the workplace. This is a problem for society, as a whole to solve, by not justifying and overlooking all the choices that create this great divide in the first place.

I totally agree. Always seems like the people with less money always say "if I were rich, I'd share my wealth"...but the people who DO have the money, keep it all for themselves. If every sports player, actor, actress & Donald Trump in the world gave up even just HALF their salaries to the poor...we'd be better off.

People are just full of greed...it's what makes the world go round, I guess.

Are you all kidding me? Who do you think supports the vast majority of charitable causes? Who puts on charity drives and dinners and events to support non-profits? The rich, that's who. Why don't you get off your a**es and get rich yourselves so you can put your money where your mouth is!

If you have doubts, look up the 2 richest men in the world - Bill Gates and Warren Buffet - and see where a huge portion of their money goes.

I give 10% of everything I make to charity. How much do you give?

Ah kind brother... You are the salt of the Earth.

The meek of this world will be exploited by the cunning. That is 1/2 of the nature of mankind. Skip religion. There are only two spititual realities in this universe.

The law of love and the law of violence. Violence can be as simple as witholding (your surplus) food from your starving neighbor.

HOW MANY SOCIAL SERVICES COULD WE HAVE PROVIDED THE POOR IF WE DIDN"T GO FIGHT IN THE SANDBOX BECAUSE THAT GUY SADDAM TRIED TO KILL "MAH DADDY" (BUSHY OF COURSE)-- THE MORON!)

Before it's over the current calculation is

$500,000,000,000

Bush will go down as the worst President in the nation's history. MARK MY WORDS.
