Worms are different from Viruses. Try scanning your computer useing Windows defender. The other reasons could be less memory or low hard disk space. You can also check the virtual memory and increase the pagefile size.

The windows mainframe has a setback regarding the management of registry keys, they pile up and then the system work slow. What you can do is to reinstall the operating software. I undersatnd the pc has no virus, but you have to reinstall, this is a Windows users setback. Sorry. That is what I do, and afterwards it works faster, just like the first time I have put Windows on it.
Hope I've helped you!
Cheers!

Windows 2000 always run slow. In fact most companies that upgrade to Windows 2000 upgrade again to Windows XP within about a year. If that doesn't say something about the operating system then I don't know what does.

there are a number of things you can do...
1. Defrag the hard drive
2. uninstall any programs that are not used any more. They may be loading files at startup.
3. Check for Adware and spyware by using some of the free tools on the internet
4. check for viruses. this can be done with AVG which you can get for free. (very good av software)
5. Increase the memory in the machine. new applications are more and more memory hungry so the more that's in your machine the better
6. not the best solution for everyone but re-install windows.
Email me if you need any more info on what I have listed. :)

It might be low on memory, so be sure to delete unnecessary files and unneeded applications. If you're sure that its not the memory, then try not to run too many programs at the same time. If that's not it either, then try asking your local computer store to fix it for you, cuz maybe it just needs an O.S. update or something.

WENEVER A SYSTEM IS SLOW,IT'S NOT ONLY BECAUSE OF VIRUS,

Upgrade.
Format and reinstall.
There are other options like cleaning your registry and stuff but if formatting is an option it is the easiest way.
