There are three types of radiation: Alpha, beta, and gamma. Alpha radiation is the weakest; easily being stopped by a peice of paper. Beta radiation is more powerful, but can be stopped by a sheet of Al foil. Gamma radiation is by far the most powerful. It takes 6 inches of solid Pb, or 3 feet of solid concrete to stop it.

Radiation is the process of emission of energy in the form of waves or particles. Various types of radiation may be distinguished, depending on the properties of the emitted energy/matter, the type of the emission source, properties and purposes of the emission. Type of radiation depends on the radioactive source "i.e. each radio nuclide have its own mode of decay"

the most common types of radiation are:
Alpha, Beta (+ or -), Gamma (electromagnetic wave with high energy and short wave length), and neutron.

the most common radioactive elements (sources) are:
Uranium, Thorium, Potassium, Plutonium, Neptonium, and Cesium.

the radioactive elements undergo the process of radiation to reach a stable state since radiation is usually accompanied by releasing energy.

alpha, beta, gamma, and cosmic

gamma is the most harmful to the human body, since it is the most penetrating
