Actually it goes like this Maori heritage comes from around the society / tahitian islands. You must remember there are actually 3 groups of Maori. Tahitian Maori, Cook Island Maori, and NZ Maori. The great migration to NZ come from tahiti to NZ via the cooks.

There are so many cultural similarities between the three. I can go the the cooks or tahiti and speak NZ Maori and they will understand me and vice versa. Also Hawaiian to a lesser extent

When you say some Maori stayed in the island Maori oral history will tell you that they did and there was frequent trips between these 3 groups. But It is said that the homeland was near tahiti, not near the philippines.

It is true that before this thar polynesia in particular the societies and tahiti were populated by the people in the Malay area via places like samoa/rotuma/etc. .

Malay is actually the start of polynesia. The reason for the polynesian looking filipino is that they too came from Malay.

If there are Malay Polynesian in the Phils. then there must be very few because there are more of Chinese, Spanish and a bit of Japanese blood there, but I still haven't seen any Polynesian. It doesn't mean that its not there, but I've lived in the Phils. for 13 years..

Only if you don't have a trickle of Filipino blood in your veins and you wanna play in the PBA; then that's the time you tell the world you're Filipino with Polynesian heritage.
