I've heard this said by both men and women. I don't really understand why you consider it a female related question. I have heard many men say the same thing, although I have never seen a man give birth to a baby.
But perhaps in your surroundings it may be a female saying (which is very strange) but perhaps I can try and give you a little insight into things.
Perhaps women say it because only a generation or so ago women were thought by society to be inferior. They were thought to be physically, mentally and emotionally unable to participate actively in contemporary society. And although this may seem like all a very long time ago left overs of this thinking still exist today.
Yes women are physically weaker but then all humans are not equal. Some men are physically weaker than some women and so we as civilised humans do not subscribe to the idea that the value of a human is on their physical strength.
"I can do anything" is not a "this is fact" statement. It is what many people call an affirmation. Women may say this because they may have been told whilst growing up that they should be nurses instead of doctors, assistants instead of scientists or secretaries instead of directors. But really a woman's mental potential is just as great as a man's. Her nature may be different and the fact that she has to take time out of her active working life to have children is also a factor, but she is in todays modern western societies permitted and able to partake in becoming many things which were closed to her only a few generations ago.
So perhaps when a woman says this in a womans context it means that she is not going to be told what she is capable of or what she is permitted to partake in anymore.
Also considering the saying is "anything they put their mind to" it again suggests that the mind is an important factor in this.
Men and women both have their strengths and weaknesses. The saying you refer to is one used by both sexes to express that they have an optimistic attitude and will persevere to acheive things. WIthout this attitude many things that are common today would never have been achieved.

Maybe it's because they've been told they can't do it for so long. I'm 43, and I still remember being told that I really didn't need to go to college, and feeling like an old maid because I was 27 when I got married. And even now, organized sports are something men do, mostly. Women's athletics don't get the same amount of coverage. Wouldn't you try to do all you can to overcome, including trying mind over matter?

no one can. basically via fact a individual, male or woman, needs to do some thing, there is not any assure that they would be waiting to do it. all and sundry have limits. i needed to be an astronaut while i became right into a young person. yet reality be counseled, i understand that i've got not got the mathematics skills to do it. i'm solid yet i'm no longer *that* solid. basically via fact i choose to, despite if i attempted, does no longer propose i might succeed. Be useful. human beings have limits and we gained't do something we choose.

because most women dont like to sweat ( i know i dont) so they never commit to run 100m in 10 sec...... if we had a women who actually wanted to do such a use less thing then i am sure she would be able to do so....... beside whats the point of it any way you only get 10 sec worth of excersize if you really want to excersize then you should jog or run not sprints i think thats what most women do...most of my friends and me run 3 times a week

Doing anything you put your mind to, is just an expression of a can do attitude. It doesn't mean that we as humans can do all things. It represents a positive approach to achieving a goal.Even if we don't accomplish what we intend to do, we can still walk away from the experience knowing we did our best.

Do women have a mind? I don't think so. They are also slower than men in almost everything besides sarcasm and spite. But, so what? Go on woman - put your mind to it - I'm waiting. Hahaha.

It's not just females it's male too! Everyone has an inbuilt desire to become what they're capable of doing, just some people don't due to a wide range of reasons.

they have been being taught this since the 50's in order to make them desire to go out and compete with men in athletics and in the workplace......now while i do give some women credit to being able to do most things as well as men i dont allow that they can do anything they set their minds to.

you know what, in this generation, its harder to be a woman. it feels like theres usually more pressure on you than on guys... especially since some people around us are totally sexist and don't believe in us when we say that we can do certain things especially if they involve strength... i think that;s why so many women look up to this saying. it gives them courage and let's them believe that they can do anything they want even if other people don't believe they can do it.

Women are tough creatures. They are designed to be able to endure the pain of childbirth. Don't underestimate their mental strength. They are tougher than us.
