How much is a one way ticket? It depends where you are coming from and when.

Many London businesses, particularly retail and restaurant establishments do not hire foreighners who do not perminantly live here. They discriminate against muslims, americans, chinese, Indian, and others, giving priority to native british people. There's nothing stoping them from doing this really. So, bring lots of $$ so you can support yourself for a while.

Secondly, they don't give you work papers (if you're from the US) unless you have a specific reason, like if you have already been hired by a company, or you are a student, you can work up to 20 hours a week. Its very strict. You have to show you have enough money in the bank to support yourself for a year just to get a visa to go over there. Even then, its hard to find a job if you're not a brit.

Depends on your supporting documents (invitation, contract papers etc). You can contact the local high commission for more details. As for the flight ticket, where are you residing?
