Adolf Hitler apparently had a great gift as a speaker. The Nazi party gained a great deal of strength as a nationalistic movement that promised to save Germany during the depression years. They attracted a great deal of support with the promise of many new jobs, and a stronger Germany. Hitler and the party developed a very strong patriotism that demanded loyalty to ones country. It was later, when the Nazi party seized control of the country, that their evil plan was unfolded. They used hatred toward certain groups as fuel to their patriotic causes.
Here in the USA, we associate patriotism toward our forefather's goals and our Constitution. We use patriotism to honor our soldiers for their bravery and the sacrifices that they made for us. Using the checks and balances system as well as term limits, we hope to discourage a "Hitler Type" from taking control of our Republic.
