Has anyone been through this and what should I expect? He is in so much pain, will it be alleviated? Will he continue to need meds? Will his zest for life come back? Please, I am scared that he will not get better and I would love to hear some stories from all that have already been through it. We don't have sex, he sleeps all day, he doesn't reprimand the kids when they need it.....I understand that he is suffering and on all kinds of crazy meds but I want my husband back....does this surgery help as much as the surgeons say it will? I am in desperate need of some good advice and serious answers. Thanks!

Two of my patients have got spinal surgery in India. One was treated for spondylolistheis by spinal fusion and the other for disc replacement. Both of them are very happy with the results.Their pain and other symptoms due to nerve compression have totally gone.

Spinal Surgery is very cheap in India. There is one company that is very famous in India that arranges spine surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Forerunners Healthcare.I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories.I have also read that they arrange financing for american and canadian patients as spine surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website.

The cost savings are incredible. As a doctor i personally believe that your husbands spine surgery can be easily handled in India as the quality of healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.both my patients had gone to India through the forerunners healthcare company.i strongly recommend you to talk to this company, checkout your options with surgery from them.

About Disc Replacement

The SB Charite III Dynamic Disc Spacer is a different type of disc replacement surgery. The purpose of the surgery is to relieve your back pain. The pain you are experiencing is most likely caused by a condition called "degenerative disc disease". The condition may take many forms and your doctor may use a different name. Regardless of the name, the disc does not work properly and causes pain when you move.

One method for stopping the pain is to stop the movement of the disc by fusing the vertebrae together. This is referred to as spinal fusion surgery. There are different methods for spinal fusion surgery involving "hardware" or rods and screws attached to the spine bones to hold them still. Another method is to insert "fusion cages" into the disc space and fusing the spine bones together.

The SB III Method
The SB III disc replacement method was developed at the Berlin Charite Clinic in Germany through a co-operation between leading orthopedic spine specialists and the staff at Link Spine Group - in the mid 1980's. The SB Charite Intervertebral Disc Spacer is a prosthesis system consisting of two endplates made of high quality cobalt chromium alloy, an implant material which has been proven to be extremely well tolerated by the body. The endplates are attached to the vertebral body by means of anchoring teeth along the border. A polyethylene sliding core is placed between these endplates which has been designed to allow near-physiological segment movements with corresponding lateral mobility. Much like an artificial hip or knee system that relies on metal and plastic to replicate normal movement, the SB Charite is designed to mimic the function of a healthy disc.

The surgical procedure for the SB Charite places an implant using the anterior (front) approach. The disc is removed at the effected level and the SB Charite device placed into the space.

The SB Charite disc replacement method has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use in the lumbar spine.
