Originally, they used to sell sausages. No, really - saw a documentary that included that little nugget of info. Walls Ice Cream? Originally a "summer subsidiary" of Walls the Butchers, but nobody wanted sausages in the hot weather - oh man, let's all brace for 36 degrees today, and then see if you fancy a sausage :oD), so they started selling ice cream too. Nowadays, the jingle-trucks are pretty much all-year-round affairs, with the option in some cases of selling hot snacks as well as cold ones.

They still sell ice cream.. I live in Victoria Australia and it's real cold at the moment. Gelatti sales and ice cream sales are still up. It melts much quicker in summer. It's already cold so why not eat something cold.
