Well that depends entirely on where you are and why you want to go there. Do you want to visit? Do you want to live there? Once you get a better idea of what you are interested in, contact your local Canadian consulate or embassy for information on the type of visa you should apply for.

As others have said you can drive, fly, or take the train which is the slowest way.

Currently you need only a valid photo ID. Have some money in your pocket depending on how long you may need more than a few dollars. Exchange your US dollars for Canadian when you get here you will get a better rate and it is much faster than doing so in the states.

A passport is always best if you have one, and you should get one because in the next year or two you will need one to travel anywhere out side your country and even to get back into your country.

This depends where you are travelling from.

From New York:
Bus,
Train
Plane,

I suggest by Plane from any other distanation

You must have a passport.
And check with a Canadian Consulate if you need a Visa
