First of all, know what you're purchasing. Perfume has the highest oil content for fragrances. It lasts the longest, and costs the most. Eau de Toilette is a mix of oil and alcohol. Lasts a good while, but not as long as perfume. It's usually about 1/2 the price of perfume. Cologne has the highest alcohol content, is the least expensive, and lasts a relatively short while. So, pay more but use less....or pay less and use more. Your choice.
The fragrance I like is CK1 for women (also makes one for men). It's a clean, citrus and spice scent. It's not overpowering (unless you use 1/2 a bottle at a time).
A good way to put perfume on: dab behind ears, onto wrists, in the crook of the elbow, and on your tummy. Anywhere there is warmth. It's also nice to rub a small amount into your hands and through your hair.
If you're using a spray or spritzer type application: spray into the air and walk into the mist. Don't spray directly onto skin, as this causes a high concentration of scent on one location.
A good rule of thumb for either women's or men's fragrances: if someone can smell you from farther than 1 foot away, you've got too much on. The office is not the place for perfumes; you want to reserve scents for those who get close to you. There is *nothing* I find more annoying and obnoxious than an overpowering scent in public places. (Especially if it's one I don't care for.) Too many competing fragrances equal one massive bad scent.

The key here is to be subtle. A light, fresh scent applied carefully....and not poured on. As the other readers have said many people suffer from allergies....puttting on a heavy or overly-applied scent could make their day miserable. Also those who suffer from migraines sometimes find heavy scents a 'trigger' to those headaches. So when wearing fragrances in the work environment be considerate of your co-workers. Put your scent on so that only people can spell it if they are close to you....not if they are 25 feet away! Colognes are the lightest form of "perfumes" They contain more alcohol so they evaporate quickly...the perfume or eau de parfum (perfume) are the strongest forms, obviously, of the scent. Another hint: If you like a scent you can just wear the body lotion of that scent to the office........You will have a light essence of your favorite scent and it keeps your skin soft at the same time. In the evening or special occasions , "layer" your fragrance by using the lotion and the fragrance for staying power.

Nothing strong smelling, especially if someone there is allergic to perfumes. I wouldn't recommend anything cheap either. Seriously there are people that have some bad allergies to perfumes. Most of the time its fine but try wearing something that is a popular brand and see what happens. I love the sunflower scent, it's soft and I've had more compliments. It's not a bad price either.

I used to have a job where I worked very closely with people and they had to follow me around.... EVERYDAY I got compliments when I wore my Clinique HAPPY. Even babies love it. It is perfect for work/office and the thing I heard most often was that it smelled subtle, gentle and not overpowering. IT works with your body's chemistry...as most good scents should. Try it! You'll love it...or shall I say your clients and co-workers will love it!!!
