Mate, here in Australia there are nationally accredited Chainsaw courses you can do. There are different levels you can achieve from basic safety / maintenance and cross cut to advanced felling techniques. If that is not an option for you, provided you are instructed by a safe reliable person, wear the proper safety equipment, take your time and have a little courage you will be fine. You will be surprised at how safe a chainsaw can be. Go for it.

Why would anyone want to watch the Texas Chainsaw Massacre anyway? Do some people actually like to see people turned into cord wood? Unfortunately the answer is yes. But do yourself a favor. When you get over your fear of chainsaws. Remember the horrible fear you had of them and don't watch movies depicting people undergoing the horrible deaths the use of such a machine on a person would cause. Now, its only a machine. Have someone you know and trust introduce you to one. Have him render it harmless by removing the chain. Touch it and hold it, go slow, keep your head and allow that person to calm you and help you through it. When you are comfortable, have him start it. It can't hurt you without the chain. Hold it running, your fear will lose its power over you.

Stop worrying about "getting over it". Are you really around chain saws that much? And how many times do you want to watch Texas chainsaw massacre?

I used to be deathly afraid of dolls.. Like the wost case ever. I work at a place that sells chucky dolls and at first I wouldn't go near them but my boss thought I was strange for not cleaning that section of the store.. So I forced myself to deal wiht them while no one was looking. I am now completely over my fear all together.
Try going near them when no one or a close friend is around and think about them and how they can't harm you. After a while you will feel better and better about being around them.
In haunted houses they take the chains off of them, so it's just the motor running so that no one gets hurt. You have nothing to worry about there.
Good luck! =)

wow, just face your fears. Chase someone with a chainsaw and have a evil laugh. It should get it out of your system.

Ask your friends to lock you inside a room with a chain saw inside.. you may be scared for hours but you'l get over it sometime because your mind will realize that it is not causing any harm.. its all psychological.. =D i saw it in national geographic channel on how to cure phobias.. =D
