the sun, just like any other star is a ball of gas, mainly hydrogen and helium. The nuclear fusion reactions taking place in the core of the sun keep the temperature of the sun so high, that there is another state of matter in the sun, namely plasma, which is neither solid, liquid or gas. Plasma is a collection of ions(electrons and charged particles). so the sun is not solid, rather gas and plasma.

The sun is not solid, liquid or gas, it is a forth state of matter called plasma. The sun is made of mostly hydrogen, in a plasma state. The plasma state occurs when the massive size of the object, in this case a our local star call the sun, creates gravity so strong it makes heat. The gravity and heat cause the electrons to merge into one giant mass called plasma. Plasma is like what comes out of a volcano which is rock in its molten state. Iit is believed that most of the universe is made of plasma

The sun is made out of the 4th state of matter -- plasma. It's not really defined as a solid, but at the sun's core, that plasma is a lot more dense than rock.

Actually every thing is energy, which you can see as light, or mostly as solids. Therefore Sun is an energy, and can have all forms of energy. Need to visit its surface in energy form to give you correct answer.
