When a real threat exisists - like the chickenhawk he is - he runs for cover (ie: North Korea)... but when the opponent is thought to be a push over (ie: Iraq)... he goes in guns blazing. I still can't get over all the stupid stupid people in the US who actually back this guy and think he's doing a good job - HUTA syndrome.

Aside from the obvious fact that there is oil in Iraq , the rest of the world had a big problem with the invasion of Iraq. The U.S. went to great lengths before the invasion in front of the U.N. trying to justify why and when the UN wouldn't back them, went ahead and invaded anyway. Israel , on the other hand, has been santioned many times by the UN Security council but because of US backing no one does anything. Can you imagine the uproar if a neighboring country of the US starting bombing the US because they didn't want to recognize a duly elected Bush (or Hamas). Neither Israel nor the US want peace, there is too much money to be made by selling arms to both sides and as long as Bush's daughters don't get called into active duty and sent to Iraq, the acceptable losses will continue to be someone else's.

Bush told you in the third debate between he and Gore that he would go into Iraq, but you were all asleep. However, he also said that the military should not be used in 'nation building', but they are doing just that.
But your follow up comment had nothing to do with your original question.
There is a difference between a nation's defense and a terrorist's organization tactics. Hezbollah, Hamas and others have purposefully targeted civilians. Nations, like Israel, tell civilians to stay away from these targets. Yet, these terrorists purposefully put their bases in the middle of civilian populations using them as human shields just so people can point and say, look, they hit civilians.

Go check this out: PBS Frontline: "The Dark Side"
blurb: "After 9/11, Vice President Richard Cheney seized the initiative. He pushed to expand executive power, transform America's intelligence agencies and bring the war on terror to Iraq. But first he had to take on George Tenet's CIA for control over intelligence."
