I would say the latter. Or at least Britain is very much under attack. Right under people's noses. I think we all need to wake up the the real threat that is facing us here in our own country.

Hey Mohammed kapci...See any of the Muslims in the USA being killed by the Gov't? See the peaceful Muslim Nations like Malaysia and Turkey under attack by the USA? However the world...in particular the USA...has done a poor job of doing so because they kill innocents along with the wretches. But the moderates are also to blame because they are not standing up not just to the USA but also to Osama and Fiends. The Moderates themselves must remove these fiends so that this war will end quickly...otherwise get ready for another 100yr. war fellas.

The world is under attack by a radical form of Islam. Read article from the Washington Post dt, Sunday, May 21, 2006; Page B01 By Nina Shea. Right from early school, Saudi Arabian children are told that Islam is the only way to god and that it will rule the world.

Maybe the Islamic and Christian cultures don't mix?

Certainly in the UK they have developed into parallel societies, which is not healthy. I grew up in the area of Leeds that one of the 7/7 suicide bombers came from, and in the last ten years or so the divide between the "locals" (for want of a better term) and the muslim population was getting wider and wider.

I myself was attacked a number of times just for walking the streets, where hot-headed young muslims didn't want us white people to walk. Like it became "their" territory. I resented that, and it is a struggle to not to become a racist when you are subject to such racial attacks. This was in the summer of 2001, around the time of the Pakistan/England Test Match when hundreds of pakistan supporters ran onto the grounds and viviously attacked the umpire and created havoc. There were a lot of bad vibes around at that time.

I don't think the situation is as "black or white" as your question implies. But I would say that certainly a lot of young muslims THINK that their religion is under attack, and that makes them aggressive, and so on, and on, and on...

Islam is not under attack by the word, a few islamic terrorist groups are.
The wold is not under attac by Islam. Indeed Islam has the Jihad concept embedded in it. Jihad means forecing Islam adoption on non-islamic believers. The fanatic Islam takes this Jihad and uses it as the basis for terrorism. In the past it was the basis for wars. However, most islamic nations are a bit more modern these days.
