In my search to pursue a career in acting; I came across this website for a filmmaking and acting school in Houston. The name of the place is called Next Actor: Acting and Filmmaking School in Houston. According to what I found it is located at 5522 Chaucer Dr., Houston, TX 77005. What I want to know is whether or not it is a legitimate business or is it a scam? If anyone out has any info about about this place, or knows someone who has visited this facility; please let me know something. I found their website (www.nextactor.com), but since anyone can make a website I won't base things off of it.

I am from Houston, currently living in NYC, but am not familiar with NextActor. It sounds like a rip-off, like those modeling schools.

My recommendation: UofH Theater School.
University of Houston School of Theatre
133 Worthamm Houston, TX 77204
Tel. 713.743.3003
UofH has a very good theater department.

Call these theatres and ask if they teach acting:
Stages Repertory Theater
3201 Allen Parkway, Suite 101
Houston, Texas 77019
Phone: 713.527.0123

Radio Music Theatre
2623 Colquitt
Houston TX; Tel. 713.522.7722

Call the Alley Theatre and ask if they can recommend an acting school.

I think Houston Community College teaches acting. Look on their website.

Call the Quaid Talent Agency, and ask for school recommendations. 713-975-9600

Best of luck and have fun!

It's great, it's fabulous. They'll make you a star in no time at all. I know, it's my company. Just kidding. You don't know. Someone who didn't hear what they wanted from a legit company will call it a scam. Another person who hears what they want from a scam will call it legit.

That said, I looked at the website and it raises some concerns. There is no mention anywhere, that I could find, as to who is teaching these classes and what their qualifications are. If the faculty had extensive theatrical or teaching credits, I'd think they'd want you to know. Also, it appears that they're selling headshots to the students; often another warning sign. Pictures of famous people standing next to what appear to be students says that it's not about the craft, it's about the fame. Many of the film credits which are linked to the school have a preponderous of East Indian talent associated - not a bad thing, but if I were you I'd at least ask why and how does that affect my situation.

Why not check with the Better Business Bureau in Houston. It could be a legitimate school but, of course, I have no way of knowing.
Also try the City or County Attorney's Office to see if they have had any complaints.

If you do not check a company before entering into a transaction, you could lose your money, time and credibility. Some widely used resources are the Better Business Bureau (www.bbb.org) and the national fraud center (www.fraud.org) these days, you can easily find out more about a company using the internet in a few minutes. From a company's website, you can details about its ownership, how old the company really is and feedback from the company's customers.

Are you familiar with the old TV show Gilligan's Island? The actress who played Mary Ann has an acting school, but I think it's in CA. Her office may know something about this school. I am a former radio DJ, and have been in touch with her office in the past. You could probably find it on-line.
